Named after the Low Burn, a stream running through the farm, our Low Burn Estate sits in a sheltered valley in Central Otago's Lowburn sub-region. Chardonnay vineys grow on a stony, ancient river terrace producing grapes with lemon zest and white flower characters alongside a long citrus and steely texture. An assemblage of individual Chardonnay parcels hand-harvested and fermented in French oak barrels with wild yeasts. Cellared for 17 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Central Otago

The fruit was hand-picked and hand-sorted before being crushed as whole bunches and gently pressed in a horizontal bag press. The juice was transferred directly to barrels (27% new) without settling. Fermentation proceeded with ambient yeasts, followed by full malolactic conversion. No additions were made, and the wine remained on its lees without sulphur for 12 months before being blended and sulphured in April 2025. The wine then spent a second winter on light lees in small horizontal stainless steel tanks, allowing natural settling to occur. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered in September 2025 and sealed under screwcap.

100% ChardonnayMendoza, Dijon 548, dijon 95, MonteLow spring rainfall and warm temperatures defined the early growing season, while strong mid-season winds presented some canopy management challenges. Fruit set was good, and disease pressure remained very low. An unusually early shift to autumnal conditions slowed ripening and, combined with dry weather, resulted in slightly higher natural acidity levels.

Drink 2026–2030

This is the second release of our Chardonnay from Low Burn, and it continues to be a wine full of personality and a truly unique voice. An alluring and energetic Chardonnay, displaying aromas of smoked mānuka, white florals, lemon curd, and fresh pastry. The palate opens with a creamy texture before a surge of electric acidity drives flavours of saltymargarita, lemon meringue pie, and grilled pine nuts. Fine-boned phenolic texture provides structure and substance, carrying the wine through a long, vibrant finish. A Chardonnay of energy, character, and individuality.
